Aspen Middle School News Show

Aspen Middle School and Grassroots TV, Channel 12, have partnered for an exciting new local media experience. Taught by long-time AMS teacher Jo Mueller, the class focuses on media production, journalism and media empowerment. Through the class students are able to obtain an understanding of media production, and are mentored and trained by the GrassRoots Television staff.
Every Wednesday and Thursday a team of nine students travel to the Red Brick to work producing “The AMS Show.” The class is open to Aspen Middle School 7th and 8th graders. When they sign up they are asked if they enjoy writing and performing. This is necessary because the kids write everything for the show. All of the stories are locally based and are in some way connected with the school and events in the community.
The collaboration between Aspen Middle School and GrassRoots Television should be a model for other TV production programs It is productive and rewarding for all involved. The staff at GrassRoots, Aspen Middle School principal, Tom Heald, and the Aspen Education Foundation deserves kudos for supporting this fine program.
