Aspen Center for Physics and Aspen Physics Preview
Some of us love physics -- and some of us wish we loved physics. No matter who you are, you know that in many ways the future of planet Earth is in the hands of the physicists. You want – you need! -- to learn more.
The national and international physicists who participate in programs at the Aspen Center for Physics offer FREE public lectures just for you. In the summer, during the 16 weeks of the Summer Program, the Heinz R. Pagels Memorial Lectures are held in Paepcke Auditorium and informal dialogues are held at the Center. In the winter, during the five to six weeks of the Winter Conferences, the Maggie and Nick DeWolf Lectures are held in the Wheeler Opera House.
The Aspen Physics Preview here on Grassroots TV introduces the lecture and the lecturer. The interviewer asks the questions you might ask as you approach a new topic and strives to create a framework on which you will be able to build greater understanding of the physical world.
Since physics is the science of matter and energy and their interactions, it embraces the incredibly large and ancient, such as the cosmic microwave background, and the incredibly small and short-lived, quarks -- and everything in between. Past titles include: “Does God Throw Dice in Black Holes?” “When Obsessions Collide: Golf and Physics,” “Mitochondrial Sequences and the Migration History of Modern Humans,” “Warped Passages: Energy & Extra Dimensions in Einstein's Universe,” and “The Quantum Mechanics of Global Warming.”
