GrassRoots TV Launches a New Website: GrassRootsTV.org

Aspen, Colo., April 6, 2010 - GrassRoots Community TV, helping you make television people watch everywhere, is pleased to announce it recently launched a completely new website at: grassrootstv.org.  Developed in-house, from the ground up, by Communications Director Ellen Winter, the new website is designed to improve and simplify free access to GrassRoots Community TV’s unique on-demand video archives, live stream of current programming, and program schedules.

GrassRoots Video Now

It is now easy to find and watch over a thousand community-produced programs using "GrassRoots Video Now," the community TV station’s on-demand service, directly from the home page.  All new programming is available online, on-demand, and the library of archive programs is growing every month.  For example, over the past year viewers from over 20 countries have accessed Aspen Center for Physics lectures dating back to 1976.  The Physics Center is the first local organization to archive its entire catalog of programs on the GrassRoots TV servers.  The GrassRoots TV servers can now preserve and play back 30,000 hours of programming.

GrassRoots TV Live

The new grassrootstv.org homepage also hosts an improved, continuous live stream of the current programs being aired on local Comcast cable channel 12 for viewers with high-speed Internet service.

GrassRoots TV Schedule

"One improvement to the website is our brand new weekly interactive program schedule," says GrassRoots TV Executive Director John Masters.  "Members of the community create over 600 original and unique programs per year. Programming the GrassRoots TV airtime schedule is a complex and fluid challenge.  With our new website, viewers can visit and view our evolving daily and weekly schedules without having to print a copy.  They still have the option, however, to download and print each week’s schedule," he said.

Another big addition to the home page is the interactive daily program schedule where viewers can now not only see what’s airing today, but also watch every show immediately, or when time permits, by simply clicking on the "View" button next to the program title.  Today, for example, "The Local's Show" is on at 1:30pm.  If a viewer is away from his TV, he can go to the website and watch this locally produced show from his computer.

Other updates of interest to community members on the brand new website are complete information about the nonprofit organization, including:  how to make a GrassRoots TV program, a list of all community producers, the access policy and service fees, GrassRoots TV12 history, photos and much more.

GrassRoots Community Television is the nation’s oldest community-operated television station.  Its mission is to protect and nurture open channels of communication for the citizens of the Roaring Fork Valley.  It is a full service television production facility with a valley-wide distribution network.  For nearly forty years, GrassRoots has helped to strengthen and define the community by enabling all local citizens and organizations to create video programming and communicate with the entire valley.
